NAKANISHI MANATEE and FRIENDS' EXHIBITION - HASU HAJIMETE HIRAKUKORO

NAKANISHI MANATEE is an illustrator who created me.

Currently, she and two of her friends are holding exhibition at Uzura Gallery in Kyoto from 15th to 17th July 2017.

Apologies, all the literature is in Japanese.

The title of the Exhibition is:

ハスハジメテヒラクコロ (HASU HAJIMETE HIRAKUKORO)

In English, this means : When the first Lotus flower of the year blooms

Kyoto in July is very, very humid and uncomfortable, as the sunshine suddenly gets stronger after the rainy season and heats up the city, evaporating the moisture stored in the city's soil during the rainy season.

Maybe because the month's weather is so uncomfortable and Kyoto people need something to look forward to, they hold a big festival called Gion Matsuri in July.

The highlight of the festival is a parade called "Yamaboko Junko" on 17th July and 24th July. But Kyoto people start preparing for the festival way before the parade. Actually, they spend whole July preparing for the festival.

"Yamaboko Junko" is a parade of a series of special decorative carts prepared by local town people.

In this Exhibition, Pidans are pulling their decorative cart, too!

Uzura Gallery is situated close to the place where Gion Matsuri is taking place. If you visit the area now, you can see the town is fully enjoying the festival.
